What to Buy this Holiday Season

Welcome back. I’ve seen many so called “Gift Guides” on Twitter and most of it is paid ad space for brands to unload excess inventory. Not here!

I’ve carefully cultivated all items on this list. I own, have owned, or will own, almost everything on this list. No gimmicks, just high quality items.

I’ve reached out to a few brands on the back end to offer exclusive discounts for readers. Those brands and products will be listed first, followed by the rest.

No company has paid me to put their products on this list, and I do not profit at all from the sales of these items.

This list is for the sole benefit of you, the reader.

LinksGems Metal Prints

I am a huge fan of Jon’s work. He is the best golf photographer I’ve come across. You can pick any one of his thousands of photos to put on a metal print. Remarkable offer!

If I’m listing things I need in a home office? His prints would be at the top of the list.

Reader Discount: BTG10 for 10% off your order

Norwegian Wool Jackets

Reader discount: TUXEDO10 for 10% off your order

I really like their shorter “commuter coats” for the cold winter commutes.

Socks

Del Campo - Code BTG10 for 10% off your order

Range Finders + Launch Monitors

I’m a fan of the rangefinders that Bushnell makes. The cheapest model of the laser is excellent and all you need.

As for the Launch Monitors, The Bushnell models are solid. I’ve also heard good things about the Garmin r10

Jan Craig Headcovers

I’m a huge knit head cover guy. I love the classic look and feel. They will never go out of style. I actually bought a few custom ones for my groomsmen a few years as a gift for being in my wedding.

You can check them out here.

Rain Gear

I have the Johnnie O stowable one for the pop up summer storms. Fits in your golf bag easily. Used it more than a few times.

Headed out and you know it’s going to rain? Just buy one from Kjus.

Tremont Sporting Company

I’m a fan of their head covers and leather goods. Lots of chatter about Winston, but I’ve found Tremont to be of better quality.

Holderness & Bourne Cashmere

Holderness recently dropped their version of the cashmere q-zip. I like it.

Also, their cotton long sleeve polos are a must-have from now until April.

Normatec Leg Compression

I bought a pair of these after getting talked into it by a mini-tour pro. He would walk at least 18 holes, sometimes 36, use these and be totally fine the next day.

At the time, I was training for a 10 mile run so I caved. They work wonders.

Belts

For the course: The King of all belts, Smathers & Branson. You can’t ever own enough of them. Here are some of their tried and true best sellers.

Formal events: You are going to want this kind of belt buckle (engraved, bonus points for roman numeral suffixes). You will pair it with either an alligator or pebbled calf belt strap.

Jackets

Barbour: A staple in the northeast and down south. My personal favorite is the timeless Beaufort

If overcoats are more of your style, I recommend this one from J. Press.

I also love the windproof jackets made by Holebrook, a Swedish company.

Bubba Whips Alignment Sticks

Custom alignment sticks are cool, and an immediate conversation starter.

Bubbawhips makes high quality ones that you can customize. They also double as an excellent host gift if you are invited to a member-guest.

Golf Shoes

Now is the best time to find deals on shoes for next year. As always, I strongly advise buying the premier series (no black shoes) from Footjoy.

Golf Bags

I suggest supporting your local pro shop and displaying your home logo proudly. These are just some suggestions on brands.

For the guy who loves to walk and carry: Jones is having a nice sale at the moment. Mackenzie are always sold out, as they make excellent carry bags as well.

For the guy who wants a stand bag: Shapland or the Titleist Players 4 Carbon.

Custom Stationary

Deviating slightly from the golf course items… to something that every self-respecting gentleman should own: High quality, custom stationary for hand-written thank you notes.

It doesn’t have to be fancy, just something from Crane that is simple and has your name on it.

Dress Shoes

Belgian Loafers. Mostly for my NYC readership. It’s worth a visit to their store on E 55th Street.

Oakstreet Bootmakers. Made in the USA. High quality shoes that will last you a long time. Superior to Allen Edmonds.

Putting Mat

For the person in your life who is considering switching to a LAB this offseason.

I like the one from Perfect Practice.

Filson Bags

I have yet to find a weekender bag that is as durable as the one I own from Filson. While the brand isn’t directly positioned to sell to golfers, their stuff is really good.

Perfect for summer weekends or for an out-of-state wedding. I also own a Filson briefcase. Once you hit 28 or so, it’s time to hang up the backpack. Backpacks are for children and college kids. Buy a Filson briefcase and move on with your life.

Sid Mashburn Suit

Many people have asked me about Sid Mashburn when it comes to golf attire. I like the style and quality of their clothing, but I don’t think they make the best stuff for the course.

With that being said - their suits are top notch for the price. If you’re a recent grad or approaching the wedding years of your life, invest in a nice tux and a nice dark suit. I own this one from Sid. Go to one of their stores and get fitted. It is worth every penny.

Hudson Sutler

I like their shoe bags and dopp kits.

Gift a Subscription to BTG

Know someone that would benefit from the knowledge shared here? Do they proudly wear big letter hats and white belts, despite your attempts to convince them otherwise?

Lead them to the light. Gift them a subscription to TTC.

See you Friday,
